Arzate leads Bruins on 1st day at GV Spring Invite

ANKENY, Iowa -- Freshman Fernando Arzate shot a 6-under par 66 Monday to lead the Bellevue University men's golf team into a tie for second place after the first round of the Grand View University Spring Invite Monday at the Otter Creek Golf Course. 

Arzate is currently tied for the tournament lead with George Long and Chad Nitz, both of Mount Mercy University. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 6-under 282 and are currently tied with Grand View and Iowa Western Community College. Mount Mercy holds a 15-stroke lead after firing a team score of 267 on Monday. 

Juan Gomez is tied for eighth with a 2-under 70. Diego Gudino shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 14th. Marc Juggins is tied for 28th after shooting a 2-over 74. Nicolas Handal is currently in 31st after recording an opening-round 75. 

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
