Bruins place second at Nebraska Intercollegiate Classic

Results

NORFOLK, Neb. - Led by a second round 74 by senior Jose Vega (Medellin, Colombia) the Bellevue University men's golf team claimed a second place finish at the 2014 Nebraska Intercollegiate Classic at the Norfolk Country Club.

Vega's two-day total of 144 was good enough to place fourth in the field of 77 on the 6,812 yard par 72. Junior Enrique Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) and sophomore Juan Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) shot 76 and 80, respectively on their way to two-day totals of 148 and 152. For their efforts Jaramillo placed tied for seventh while Gomez finished in a tie for 16th place.

Sophomores Nicolas Handal (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) shot 76 to finish with a score of 154 to place in a tie for 22nd while Diego Gudino's (Queretaro, Mexico) 77 allowed him to finish with a final score of 155, good for 32nd place.

Competing as individuals, juniors Mike Hannon (Hastings, Neb.) and Tomas Ovejero (Salta, Argentina) shot second rounds of 74 and 77, respectively. Hannon finished the event in a tie for seventh place with a score of 148 while Ovejero finished with a score of 157 to place in a tie for 38th.

Hastings College won the team event with a score of 591, three strokes ahead of second place Bellevue (595). Midland University came in third with a score of 600 while Nebraska Wesleyan (602) and the University of Nebraska-Kearney (602) rounded out the top five. Play was delayed by one hour at the start due to frost on the course.
