SHAWNEE, Okla. - Sophomore Nicolas Handal (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) shot a 2-over 74 to pace the Bellevue University men's golf team to an 11th place standing through the first round of the Oklahoma Baptist University Fall Invitational at Shawnee Country Club.

Handal's score of 74 through the first round is good enough for a tie for 14th in the field of 77 competitors. Senior Jose Vega (Medellin, Colombia) and junior Tomas Ovejero (Salta, Argentina) both shot identical rounds of 78 and are tied with each other and numerous other players for 31st place.

Sophomore Diego Gudino (Queretaro, Mexico) and junior Enrique Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) round out the BU field for the event. Gudino, tied 50th, shot an 81 while Jaramillo, tied 60th, fired an 83.

With a score of 311 the Bruins stand just two strokes behind Seminole State Community College for 10th and are within 10 strokes of fifth place, currently held by Our Lady of the Lake (303). Southwestern University is atop the leaderboard with a score of 290, eight strokes ahead of both Oklahoma Baptist (298) and Oklahoma City (298). Bethany College is fourth with a score of 300.

The Bruins will wrap up play at the Oklahoma Baptist University Fall Invitational tomorrow morning.
