OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Bellevue University men's golf team is currently tied for third place after the first round of the season-opening 14-team Southwestern Christian University Fall Invite being played at the Lake Hefner Golf Course.
The Bruins, who shot a 6-over par 286 on the day, trail first-place Oklahoma Baptist University by 16 strokes as the Bison fired a 10-under total of 270. Tournament host Southwestern Christian is in second place at 3-over par 283.
Nicolas Handal, who was competing as an individual, fired a 4-under par 66 and is currently in second place in the individual standings.
Jose Vega, Tomas Ovejero, and Juan Gomez all shot 1-over par 71's on the day. The trio is tied in a log jam at 14th place. Enrique Jaramillo and Diego Gudino both shot 3-over 73 and are tied for 33rd place in the field of 82 golfers.
Oklahoma Baptist's Zach Oliver leads the tournament field after recording a 6-under par 64.
The tournament will conclude on Wednesday (Sept. 3) with a 8 a.m. shotgun start.
