PRIMM VALLEY, Nev. -- Led by Nicolas Herrera and Jose Vega, the Bellevue University men's golf team sits in a tie for fourth place after the second round of the Battle at Primm at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
The Bruins finished the first day of competition with a team total of 579 to tie with California State University, San Marcos.
Herrera fired a four-under-par 68 in the first round before finishing the day with an even-par round of 72 to tie for third place overall with a total score of 140.
Vega is currently tied for seventh after posting rounds of 73 and 69 for a two-round total of 142.
Other Bruin golfers included Tomas Ovejero (76-74--150) and Enrique Jaramillo (79-72--151) while Mike Hannon finished the day with rounds of 75-88-163.
Oklahoma City University is in first place overall in the 18-team tournament with a score of 569 (-7). Peter French of Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University leads the field with a six-under-par two-round total of 138.
The Bruins will conclude the two-day tournament tomorrow.
