EAST MOLINE, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team won the Ashford Invitational after the final day of competition on Tuesday at Short Hills Country Club.
The Bruins won the team title by 31 strokes with a total score of 865. This marks the first tournament win of the fall season for BU.
Nicolas Herrera, Tomas Ovejero, Jose Vega and Matt Schlueter of Mount Mercy College all finished in a tie for first place with a two-day score of 214. Ovejero won the four-way playoff.
Herrera recorded scores of 72-68-74 while Ovejero registered rounds of 74-68-72. Vega carded scores 71-70-73.
Nicolas Handal fired scores of 74-77-74 (225) to place in a tie for 12th while Mike Hannon recorded a three-round total of 230 to finish in a tie for 17th place overall.
The Bruins will return to action on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 14-15 when they compete in the U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Course hosted by Oklahoma City University.
