KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Senior Davis Garner and sophomore Jose Vega have been named first team NAIA All-Americans in announcement made today by the NAIA-Men's Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.
A total of 45 student-athletes were honored with 15 individuals being named to each of the three teams. Garner and Vega became the first men's golf All-Americans in school history.
In only the second year as a varsity sport, Garner and Vega helped lead the Bruins to a fifth place finish in the 2013 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships last week in Salem, Ore.
Garner placed fifth at the National Tournament after firing an even-par score of 288 in the 72-hole event. Vega finished in a tie for seventh place at Nationals after registering five birdies in the final round, recording a 3-under par score of 69, finishing at 2-over par for the tournament.
Garner won two events during the 2012-13 campaign and finished in the top 10 in 10 tournaments. He was second on the team with a 72.43 average per round. Garner was named the MCAC Newcomer of the Year.
Vega was the tournament medalist in three events this season, including the 2013 MCAC Tournament, where he was named the MCAC Golfer of the Year. He placed in the top five in eight events and led the team with a 71.78 average.
