SALEM, Ore. -- Led by senior John Matthews' even-par 72, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently tied for third place after the first day of competition at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships being played at the Creekside Golf Club. 

Oklahoma City University leads the tournament field with an 8-under par team total of 280. Bellevue is 14 strokes back at 6-over 294. 

OCU's Anthony Marchesani is in the lead individually with a 4-under 68 on the day. 

The Bruins are tied with Johnson and Wales (Fla.) University and Faulkner University. Grand View University is in second at even par 288.

Matthews is tied for 13th individually. Tomas Ovejero shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 25th. Jose Vega is tied for 33rd with a 2-over 74. Davis Garner shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 39th. 

The Bruins will tee off in Tuesday's second round at 9:20 a.m. central time. 

The tournament is a 72-hole event with the final round scheduled for Friday, May 17.
