SHAWNEE, OKLA. -- Paced by Davis Garner and Jose Vega, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in first place after the opening round of the Oklahoma Baptist Fall Invite being played at the Shawnee Country Club.
The Bruins lead the field with a first round team score of 294, six shots ahead of Murray State Community College's 300.
Garner shot an opening round score of 3-under-par 69 and is in second place in the individual standings. Vega is in third with a first round score of two-under 70.
Murray State's Chad Smith leads the field with a 4-under score of 68.
John Matthews fired a 77 and is tied for 14th place. Josh Larrison and Mike Hannon both shot opening-round scores of 78 and are tied for 20th place.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday (Oct. 9) with a 9 a.m. start.
