OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- With a field that featured the top two teams from last year's NAIA National Championship, the Bellevue University men's golf team captured the team title Tuesday in the prestigious U.C. Ferguson Classic on Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Bruins finished with a 54-hole team total of 819, 33-under par. BU posted the day's top round with a 17-under total of 267. Bellevue outpaced second-place Oklahoma Christian by seven strokes (275-281-270 -- 826) and third place Oklahoma City by 13 strokes (273-276-283 -- 832).
Freshman Taylor Sundbom led the Bruins with a three-day total of 201, 12-under par, which was good for third place in the individual standings. Jose Vega tied for fifth with a 9-under par score of 204.
Davis Garner finished 10th after posting the Bruins' top round of the day with a 65. He finished with a 7-under total of 206. John Matthews and Javier Franco both finished in a tie for 37th, with 3-over par totals of 216.
Oklahoma Christian's Sam Johnston was the tournament medalist after finishing 16-under par for the tournament. Oklahoma City's Anthony Marchesani was second with a 13-under par total of 200.
