LAWRENCE, Kan. -- In its inaugural season, the Bellevue University men's golf team claimed the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference team title Tuesday at the MCAC Championships played at the Eagle Bend Golf Course. With the title, the Bruins earned a trip to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at the Creekside Country Club in Salem, Ore. on May 22-25. 

Bellevue finished with a 54-hole team total of 879 (293-287-299), out-pacing second place Central Baptist College by 27 strokes. 

Freshman Javier Franco led the Bruins with a second place overall finish, shooting a 1-under total of 215 (71-69-75). Junior John Matthews placed third with a 2-over 218 (73-72-73). Freshman Jeff Shermoen was fifth at 225 (75-75-75). Freshman Tanner Alder tied for seventh at 228 (81-71-76). Freshman Jose Vega tied for ninth with a total of 230 (74-77-79). 

Central Baptist's Justin Burns was the tournament's medalist with a 5-under total of 211 (69-71-71).
