SALEM, Ore. -- Led by Jose Vega's third round score of 1-over par 73, the Bellevue University men's golf team moved up one spot to 23rd place at the NAIA National Championships at the Creekside Golf Club. The Bruins, however, missed the cut as only the top 17 teams advanced to Friday's final round.
The Bruins shot their best team total of the tournament, finishing with a team score of 303 on the day, for a three-day total of 940.
Vega tied for 62nd place in the individual standings with a 12-over 229. Vega was steady all day with one birdie, a pair of bogies, and 15 pars.
John Matthews shot a 78 and is tied for 71st place with a 231.
Jeff Shermoen shot the Bruins' second-best round of the day with a 75 and is tied for 91st place at 234. He collected three birdies on the day.
Other Bruin scores included Tanner Alder with a 78 and Javier Franco with a 77, including five birdies in the round.
Oklahoma Christian continues to lead the field with a three-day team total of 877, three strokes ahead of second-place Our Lady of the Lake (880).
