The 2018-2019 season is Mary’s first with the Bruins under head coach Shane Paben. Mary comes to Bellevue after serving 3 years as first assistant under head coach Pat Gordon at Lincoln Park High School in Chicago, Ill. In Mary’s tenure at Lincoln Park, he helped lead the Lions to 3 consecutive winning seasons. The Lions 2017-2018 season marked the first time in over a decade that Lincoln Park won their conference championship, won a regional championship in the state playoffs, and earned a Top 10 ranking in the state of Illinois.

Prior to Lincoln Park, Mary coached AAU basketball with Full Package Athletics from 2010-2014. Playing a national schedule coach Mary was responsible for finding, recruiting, and coaching elite talent from across the Midwest. In his four years with FPA Mary coached and helped gain scholarships for 20+ division 1 student-athletes.

Mary got his start in coaching at his high school alma mater, Guerin College Preparatory High School in River Grove, IL. From 2009-2011 Mary served as first assistant and interim head coach in 2011. Mary played shooting guard and lead the Gators to the schools first ever Regional Championship in 2008.

Mary is a graduate of The University of Kansas where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.

Coach Mary is from Bellwood, Illinois. His mother, Mary, is a high school teacher and his father, Paul, is a retired behavior specialist within the deaf community. He has one sister his senior, Veronica.
