Carter, Thompson earn Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition

NAIA Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In an announcement made today by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, two Bellevue University men's basketball student-athletes were honored for their outstanding work in the classroom by being named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Senior point guard Christian Carter (Concord, Calif.) and sophomore forward Liam Thompson (Phoenix, Ariz.) were each recognized by the NAIA on Wednesday and are repeat winners of the award.

Carter was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in each of the past two seasons and becomes the first Bruin to become a three-time recipient of the award.

Thompson was a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete last year in his first season of eligibility and joins Carter as the only other multiple recipient.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended one full year at said institution.

A total of 626 men's basketball student-athletes were honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the second-most of any winter sport.

The Bruins (12-14, 4-9 NSAA) head to Dickinson, N.D., on Friday, Feb. 21, for an 8:30 p.m. (CT) matchup with Dickinson State University.
