Wayne State takes down BU in exhibition

WAYNE, Neb. -- Eric Pierce scored 11 points on Tuesday evening in the Bellevue University men's basketball team's 74-40 exhibition loss to NCAA Division II Wayne State College.

Pierce led the way for the Bruins with 11 points and added three steals while Taylor Pomeroy tossed in eight points and Justin Motley added seven, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, and blocked three shots.

Bellevue kept it close early, trailing 14-11 with 13:13 to play before Wayne State closed the half on a 30-12 run to take a 44-23 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats shot 51 percent from the floor while holding the Bruins to 38 percent from the floor. The game counted as a regular-season contest for Wayne State, who improves to 1-2 with the victory.

Bellevue racked up 13 steals and forced 15 turnovers but suffered from 31 turnovers of their own leading to WSC out-scoring the Bruins 38-8 in points off turnovers.

Jordan Janssen led Wayne with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor in 20 minutes of action. Justin Eagins joined him in double figures with 12 points and added five steals.

Bellevue returns to action this weekend with a pair of games at the Viterbo University Classic. Bellevue meets College of the Ozarks at 5 p.m. on Friday before facing off with Cardinal Stritch on Saturday at noon.
