BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's basketball coach Lucas Gabriel announced today the signing of Michael Wright (Sacramento, Calif./Cal State-L.A./CC San Francisco)to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Wright, a 6-5 point guard, comes to Bellevue from Cal State Los Angeles where he played the 2019-20 season and the City College of San Francisco where he spent his first two collegiate seasons.

This past season Wright appeared in 21 games for the Golden Eagles of Cal State-L.A. with eight starts averaging 10 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He ranked second on the team in both assists (70) and blocked shots (24) while his 27 steals were good for fourth. He dished out a team season-high nine assists in L.A.'s 81-66 win over Sonoma State on Dec. 21. He went for a season-high 20-point effort against Cal State-Monterey Bay on Feb. 6 as he 11 times scored 10-plus this past season. He hauled in season-high eight boards at Cal State-East Bay on Nov. 21 and blocked a season-best five shots against Stanislaus State on Jan. 16.

As a junior college player at CCSF with great playmaking ability, Wright earned first team All-North Coast League honors. An efficient shooter, Wright connected on 49.1 percent of his field goal tries in his two-years on campus. He averaged 7.7 points, scoring in double figures on 18 occasions, and 5.1 rebounds per game over his career while totaling 94 assists, 74 blocked shots, and 52 assists.

In his sophomore season, Wright played a crucial role in helping CCSF run of 29-straight wins en route to a CCCAA State Championship with a 33-1 overall record. He averaged 10.7 points on 56 percent shooting during the State Playoffs, including going off for a season-high 19 on 9-of-13 shooting in the State Championship Game victory over San Diego City.

Wright joins earlier announced signees Justin Motley (Cleveland, Ohio/Riverside CC/South Plains) and Ryan Reed (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento CC) in the Bruins' 2020 recruiting class.

Bellevue posted a 24-8 overall mark in 2019-20, including a 13-1 record in NSAA play as they claimed their 11th-straight regular-season title. In its storied history, the Bruin basketball program has won 32 conference championships, qualified for 19 NAIA National Tournament Appearances, and made four trips to the NAIA Fab Four, with all of those coming since the 1997-98 season.
