Bates recognized as NSAA Player of the Week

MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University junior Isaiah Bates (Sacramento, Calif.) became the latest Bruin to earn North Star Athletic Association Player of the Week honors when the league office announced its final weekly awards winners on Monday afternoon.

Bates becomes the fifth different BU men's basketball player to earn the award this season as Bellevue claimed eight of the 17 awards this season.

In helping the Bruins to a pair of victories last week and clinching the NSAA Regular Season title outright, Bates averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Additionally, he added four steals and a pair of blocked shots while notching a handful of highlight-reel dunks. He shot 84.6 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent from the free throw line on the week.

On Monday against Mayville State he turned in a 15-point, seven-rebound performance on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting effort from the floor as the Bruins locked up their 11th-straight conference regular-season crown.

He followed that up with a 13-point, eight-rebound effort on five of seven shooting.

For the season, Bates is averaging 7.1 points on a team-best 79.8 percent shooting to go along with 3.6 rebounds per game.

Bellevue begins their postseason journey on Tuesday evening as the top-seeded Bruins (23-7 | 13-1 NSAA) host eighth-seeded Presentation College (3-26 | 0-14 NSAA) in the quarterfinal round of the North Star Tournament at 7:30 p.m. from the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
