Coyotes defeat BU, 78-52, in exhibition

VERMILLION, S.D. -- NCAA Division I University of South Dakota had three players score in double figures as the Coyotes defeated the Bellevue University men's basketball team, 78-52, in an exhibition contest at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center Wednesday night. 

USD registered a season-best 59.3 percent shooting clip, going 32-of-54 from the field. Defensively, the Coyotes held BU to 36.8 percent shooting (21-of-57). Bellevue did not shoot a free throw in the game, the first time in the Division I era that a South Dakota opponent did not attempt a single shot from the charity stripe.

South Dakota used a 14-4 run midway through the first half to turn a three-point advantage into a 13-point lead. The Bruins could not cut the lead into single digits the remainder of the game and USD led by as many as 29 points before settling for the 78-52 victory.

Josh Lindsey-Hunter led the Bruins with 11 points. Jaron Dickson and Stephen Matthews chipped in with eight points apiece. 

Cody Kelley (18) and Tyler Peterson (17) combined for 35 points to lead the Coyote offense.  

The Bruins will travel to Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday, Dec. 15, for a 3 p.m. contest at sixth-ranked Briar Cliff.
