MADISON, S.D. -- After leading the No. 21 Bellevue University men's basketball team to a pair of victories last week, junior guard Nick Hilton (Sacramento, Calif.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference.
Hilton was outstanding on both ends of the court last week. On the offensive end of the floor he averaged 26.0 points and 4.0 assists per game to pace BU to victories over Valley City State (82-61) and Jamestown (79-60). He was 19-of-32 (59.4 percent) on the week from the floor and hit on 61.9 percent (13-of-21) of his three-point tries.
Defensively, he swiped five steals and spent time guarding a pair of the top offensive players in the conference – VCSU's Rashad Satahoo and UJ's Jake Hagler. In the win over Valley City, Hilton pulled down five rebounds.
Hilton scored a career-high 27 points and was 6-of-10 from deep in the win over Valley City on Friday and followed it up with a 25-point effort on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc against Jamestown.
On the season, Hilton is the Bruins' second leading scorer, averaging 11.4 points per game while leading the team in both three-pointers (76) and three-point field goal percentage (45.0). Additionally, he is tied for the team lead with 18 steals and ranks second with 68 assists.
The Bruins are currently 19-8 overall (11-3 NSAA) and have won 13 of their last 14 games overall. They wrap up the regular-season with a pair of games at Dakota State (Fri., 7:30 p.m.) and at Waldorf (Sat., 5 p.m.) but will host, at a minimum, an NSAA quarterfinal game on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
