Big first-half run propels BU to 36-point win at MSU

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team used a 26-1 first-half run to propel the Bruins to an 84-48 victory at Mayville State University Saturday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Lewy Lee Center. 

The Bruins, who won their sixth-straight game, improved to 12-7 on the season and 4-2 in the NSAA. MSU fell to 6-9 overall and 0-6 in league play. 

The 36-point margin marked the most lopsided victory for the Bruins in conference play since joining the NSAA in 2015-16. Eleven different Bruins scored in the contest. 

Jaffery Stillman and Jerred Cook led the Bruins with 14 points apiece. Stillman added five rebounds and a pair of assists. Cook drained 4-of-7 3-pointers in the win. Jalen Hall was the third Bruin in double figures, finishing with 11 points and five boards. 

The Bruins forced 20 turnovers and capitalized on 25 points off turnovers in the victory. 

Daniel Lindgren paced the Comets with 14 points and four rebounds. 

After a 4-4 tie, the 26-1 BU run early in the first half gave the Bruins a commanding 30-5 advantage midway through the opening period. Eight different Bruins scored at least four points in the first period as BU took a 47-27 lead into the intermission. 

Hall went 3-for-3 from the field in the first half and was 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to lead the Bruins with 10 points along with two rebounds. The Bruins outshot the Comets 50 percent to 40.7 percent while building the 20-point halftime margin. 

An 8-0 BU run pushed the Bruin lead to 27 points at 57-30 with 17 minutes remaining in the game. The Comets never got closer than 22 points the remainder of the contest as BU cruised to the 84-48 victory.   

Bellevue will travel to the University of Jamestown tomorrow (Jan. 8) for a 5 p.m. NSAA matchup with the Jimmies.
