Bruins drop season finale at Governor’s State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. -- Three Jaguars scored at least 20 points as Governor's State University raced to a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 91-72 non-conference victory over the No. 23 Bellevue University men's basketball team on Saturday evening.

Willie Lipsey scored 23 to lead the Jaguars and Jalen Miller and Torrey Oliver scored 22 each. Miller also hauled in a game-best 11 rebounds for a double-double.

BU drops to 20-10 on the year while Governor's State improves to 8-21 with the win.

Mike Cardenas and Nicolus Guzman co-led the Bruins with 15 points apiece while Jerred Cook added 12 in the loss. The Bruins received eight points each from Chris Ashanti and Olutola Olushola as well.

Bellevue was out-rebounded 33-22 on the game despite nine boards from Marquis Aaron. Aaron also dished out a team-high four assists.

The Jaguars hit on 60.7 percent of their field goal attempts, including connecting on a 72.4 percent rate in the first half. For the game GSU shot 72.7 percent from deep in the first half on their way to shooting 55.6 percent from three for the ballgame.

The teams combined to hit 17-of-18 from the charity stripe for the game.

Despite the loss, Bellevue did receive some good news tonight as Presentation picked up an 84-82 overtime victory at Valley City State. That result means that the Bruins share the regular season conference championship with the Vikings and Dakota State. All three teams finished the season will 11 points in the conference point standings. It marks the seventh successive season – and 15th time overall – in which BU has won at least a share of a conference regular season championship.
