BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Senior Percy Lemle scored 33 points, including the game-winner, as the sixth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 92-91, in double overtime Friday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Nest.
The Bruins, who have won five-straight games, improved to 19-3 on the season and 5-1 in the MCAC. Oklahoma Wesleyan fell to 6-15 overall and 0-6 in league play.
Lemle finished with 33 points, four assists and three rebounds in the victory. Thomas Hammock hit six 3-pointers, finishing with a season-high 21 points. Alex Worthen-Harris was the third Bruin in double figures, registering 10 points and four rebounds.
CJ Ross led the Eages with a double-double, finishing with 26 points, 11 rebounds, along with four assists.
Hammock hit 4-of-6 3-pointers in the first half, pacing the Bruins with 15 points as BU took a 40-29 lead at the intermission. The opening period was highlighted by a 15-3 BU run over a three-minute span as the Bruins erased a 17-11 deficit while limiting the Eagles to 36 percent shooting from the field.
OKWU stormed back with an 18-6 run to start the second half, taking a 47-46 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the contest.
After the Bruins used an eight-point run to break a 52-all tie, the Eagles responded with an 18-6 surge to take a 70-66 advantage with just over two minutes left in regulation.
Trailing 72-70 with four seconds remaining, Lemle nailed a short jumper off an alley-oop inbounds pass and was fouled, giving BU a chance to win in regulation. Lemle missed the ensuing free throw to force the overtime.
After Lemle's bucket gave BU an 83-81 lead with 19 seconds remaining in the first overtime, Chandler Moczygemba's short jumper at the buzzer forced the second overtime.
Lemle gave the Bruins a 92-91 lead on a jumper with 51 seconds remaining in the second extra period. After both teams missed shots on their next possession, Moczygemba's 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark, giving BU the 92-91 victory.
The Bruins will travel to Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday (Jan. 31) for a 5 p.m. conference game at Haskell Indian Nations University.
