
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior Dominique Grant poured in a career-high 30 points as the No. 23-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team upset No. 15 York College, 80-67, Saturday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The two teams tied for the MCAC regular season crown with identical 12-4 league records.
Bellevue improved to 21-9 on the season while York fell to 22-7 overall.
Grant finished the night 10-of-12 from the field, while nailing 10-of-11 free throws and collecting nine rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Joining Grant in double figures were Jamil Goodwin (15 points, nine rebounds), Shawn Tarver (13 points, 9 rebounds) and Everett Robinson (11 points, 4 rebounds).
The Panthers were led by Andre Vaughn's 15 points.
Bellevue outshot York, 52.1 to 45 percent while holding a commanding 41-24 advantage in rebounds.
The Bruins raced out to a 10-point advantage in the first six minutes of the game, capped by a 15-foot jumper by Grant that gave BU a 17-7 lead. A three-point play by Grant kept the lead at 10 points (26-16) with 4:35 left in the opening period.
The Panthers closed the half on a 10-3 run highlighted by two-straight 3-pointers by Vaughn, as Bellevue took a 29-26 lead into intermission.
Bellevue opened the second half on a 9-4 run to grab a 38-30 lead with 16:49 remaining in the game. The Panthers countered with a 10-5 run to close to three points at 43-40 at the 14-minute mark.
After two-straight layups from Goodwin gave BU a seven-point margin, York battled back with a 9-2 run to tie the contest at 49-49 midway through the second period.
The Bruins responded with a 19-6 run over the next seven minutes to pull away for a 68-55 lead with three minutes left in the game. Grant nailed nine free throws over the final two minutes to seal the 80-67 victory.
Times and pairings for the MCAC Tournament will be released early next week.
