No. 23 Bruins fall at Waldorf, 71-65

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Waldorf College snapped Bellevue University's six-game winning streak, defeating the 23rd-ranked Bruins 71-65 Tuesday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Hanson Fieldhouse.

The loss dropped Bellevue to 20-9 overall and 11-4 in the MCAC while Waldorf improved to 12-14 and 9-6 in league play.

Jamil Goodwin, Everett Robinson and Dominique Grant combined for 50 points to lead the Bruins offensively.

Goodwin notched his team-high 11th double-double of the season, recording a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds. Robinson scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting while Grant added 11 points.

Trailing 18-15, the Warriors ended the first period on a 20-6 run to take a 35-24 lead at intermission. The Bruins shot just 41.7 percent from the field in the opening half while WC made 59.3 percent of its shots en route to an 11-point advantage.

The Bruins scored four-straight points and nine of the first 12 to begin the second half as they cut their deficit down to five, 38-33. WC immediately answered back and scored the next six points to take a 44-33 lead.

BU went on a 7-0 spurt to pull within four, 44-40, but the Bruins never got any closer as WC led the entire second half. The Warriors made 15 of their 19 free throw attemps in the final three minutes to help seal the win.

The Bruins made three 3-pointers and forced two Warrior turnovers in final minute, but it wasn't enough as they lost, 71-65.

WC was led by Mitch Barrett-Burrell who scored 17 points off the bench.

The Bruins will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they welcome 15th-ranked York College to the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
