Zamudio, Goodwin pace Bruins over Waldorf, 70-55

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Blake Zamudio scored a season-high 20 points and junior Jamil Goodwin notched his ninth double-double to lead the Bellevue University men's basketball team to a 70-55 win over Waldorf College Saturday night in MCAC action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Bellevue improved to 15-8 on the season and 6-3 in the MCAC. Waldorf fell to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in league play. 

Zamudio finished 6-of-7 from 3-point range while adding two assists and a pair of steals. Goodwin finished with 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, which ranks fourth in school history on the Bruins' single-game records' chart. Goodwin has registered double-doubles in seven of the last nine games. 

Senior Shawn Tarver narrowly missed a double-double, tallying 16 points and nine rebounds. Everett Robinson was the fourth Bruin in double figures, finishing with 13 points, while adding two assists. 

Mitch Barrett-Burrell led the Warriors with 15 points. 

Zamudio went 4-for-4 from behind the arc, scoring 14 points in the opening half and Goodwin grabbed 11 rebounds as the Bruins built a 35-28 halftime advantage. 

The first half featured two ties and six lead changes with the Bruins shooting 58.3 percent from the field, while limiting the Warriors to 42.9 percent shooting. 

After the Bruins built a 12-point lead in the first five minutes of the second half, Waldorf used an 11-4 run over the next three minutes to close the gap to five points at 46-41 at the 12-minute mark.

The two teams traded baskets over the next seven minutes with the Warriors never drawing closer than four points and the largest BU advantage at eight points until consecutive 3-pointers by Jordan Bernardo and Robinson gave the Bruins a 62-49 lead with 4:40 left in the contest. 

Bellevue extended the lead to 18 points (68-50) after a Robinson layup at 1:43, before collecting the 70-55 victory. 

The Bruins shot 54.2 percent from the field for the game, including 50 percent (12-of-24) from behind the 3-point arc. 

Bellevue will travel  to Conway, Ark. next Friday, Feb. 1, for a 7:30 p.m. league matchup at Central Baptist College.
