Bruins upset No. 25 Ozarks in two overtimes, 92-90

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- All five Bruin starters scored in double figures as the Bellevue University men's basketball team pulled out a thrilling, 92-90, double overtime win over No. 25 College of the Ozarks Friday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 13-7 on the season and 4-2 in the MCAC. Ozarks fell to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Jamil Goodwin led the Bruins with his team-leading sixth double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 22 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Dominique Grant and Everett Robinson both poured in 19 points, while Blake Zamudio added 11 and Thaddeus Perry chipped in 10 points.

Mike Wiebe led all scorers with a career-high 38 points for the Bobcats. 

Zamudio and Robinson both scored nine points to lead the Bruins in the opening half as Bellevue established a 37-33 halftime advantage despite being outshot 56 to 45 percent. Wiebe led the Bobcats in the first period with 11 points.

Neither team could establish control in the first half, which featured four ties and the largest lead of six points.    

Ozarks opened the second half on a 12-1 run to grab a 45-38 lead with 15:40 remaining in regulation. Bellevue responded with a 7-2 spurt to pull to within two points at 47-45 at the 14-minute mark.

Wiebe scored 13-straight points for the Bobcats during a four-minute stretch, giving Ozarks a 66-60 lead with just under five minutes left in the second period. 

Five-consecutive points by Grant cut the lead to 69-67 with 2:33 remaining. After a Wiebe free throw, Bellevue made it a one-point game (70-69) with a pair of free throws by Goodwin at 1:47.

Grant made one-of-two free throws with 18 seconds remaining to tie the contest at 70-70. Alex Williams missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending the game into the first overtime. 

With the score knotted at 79 apiece, Perry gave the Bruins an 81-79 lead with a layup with 22 second left in the overtime. Wiebe quickly responded with a 20-foot baseline jumper to tie the score at 81-81 with 14 seconds remaining. 

Perry missed a layup at the buzzer, sending the game to a second overtime. 

The Bruins opened the second overtime on a 7-2 run to take an 88-83 lead at the two-minute mark. 

A 3-point play by Ethan Murray pulled Ozarks to within two points (88-86) at 1:28. Goodwin's layup at 1:03 made it 90-86. Zamudio nailed two free throws with 26 seconds remaining to make it 92-86. A Wiebe bucket cut it to 92-88 at 14 seconds. After a Bobcat steal, Murray hit a shot at the buzzer to make the final, 92-90.
