Tarver leads Bruins over Southwestern Christian, 68-53

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Shawn Tarver recorded his fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points, while adding 12 rebounds, to lead Bellevue University to a 68-53 win over Southwestern Christian University in MCAC men's basketball action Saturday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Bellevue improved to 11-7 on the season and 2-2 in the MCAC. The Eagles dropped to 4-14 on the year and 0-4 in league action. 

Jamil Goodwin notched his team-leading fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Thaddeus Perry collected 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Everett Robinson was the fourth Bruin in double figures, finishing with 12 points and six rebounds. 

The Eagles' Reggis Sloan led all scorers with 22 points. 

After SCU grabbed a 21-14 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, Tarver scored 10-straight points to give the Bruins a 24-21 advantage with 5:57 remaining in the opening period.  

Following five-consecutive SCU points, Bellevue closed the half on a 6-2 run as the two teams went into intermission tied at 30 apiece. 

Tarver paced the Bruins in the first period with 12 points and eight rebounds. Bellevue shot just 35 percent in the opening half, while the Eagles connected on 46 percent of their shots. 

Perry scored the Bruins' first eight points of the second half as BU took a 38-32 lead at the 16:20 mark.  Bellevue used a 14-5 run over the next nine minutes to pull away to a 52-39 margin.

The two teams traded baskets the remainder of the game as Bellevue earned the 68-53 win. 

The Bruins heated up in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field while limiting the Eagles to just 20.8 percent shooting.
