Fast start propels Bruins to 75-45 win over Central Baptist

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team opened the game on a 27-2 run and never looked back as the Bruins earned their first conference win with a convincing 75-45 victory over Central Baptist College Friday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Bellevue improved to 10-7 on the season and 1-2 in the MCAC. Central Baptist fell to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in league play. 

Shawn Tarver led three Bruins in double figures with 16 points, while adding four rebounds and three steals. Everett Robinson poured in 12 points and added a game-high five assists. Blake Zamudio was 3-for-3 from 3-point range, finishing with 12 points. 

The Mustangs were led by Carl Corman's 11 points and 11 rebounds. 

After the 27-2 run to start the contest, the Mustangs got as close as 20 points before BU closed the half on an 8-2 spurt to take a 44-18 lead at the intermission. 

Tarver ended the first half with 14 points as the Bruins shot 53 percent from the field while holding CBC to 26 percent shooting. 

The Mustangs got as close as 26 points early in the second half before the Bruins went on a 16-point run to gain a 64-22 advantage, holding CBC scoreless for nearly seven minutes. 

A 14-point run by the Mustangs brought CBC to with 30 points at 67-37 at the five-minute mark. The Mustangs never got closer than 29 points the remainder of the contest as BU cruised to the 75-45 victory.
