Late first half surge lifts Bruins past Indiana-East, 81-58

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team used a 19-5 run to end the first half to help propel them to an 81-58 win over Indiana University East Saturday afternoon in the McDonald's Classic on the campus of College of the Ozarks.

Bellevue improved to 9-7 as the Bruins snapped Indiana-East's six-game winning streak as the Red Wolves fall to 11-5 overall.

Jordan Bernardo made five 3-pointers and led the Bruins in scoring with 16 points and three assists off the bench.

Shawn Tarver notched his third double-double of the season, recording 15 points and 10 rebounds and Dominique Grant posted 10 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals.

For the second-straight game, Jamil Goodwin recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Thaddeus Perry was the fifth player in double-digit scoring 12 points on 4-for-4 shooting.

Leading 25-23, BU scored 19 of the final 24 points over the final 4:26 en route to a 44-28 lead at halftime. Bernardo led the way with 13 points, including four 3-pointers, while Grant added eight points, seven assists and four rebounds.

The Bruins led by double digits the entire second half as they cruised to the 23-point non-conference win.

BU also shot a season-high 56.4 percent from the field.

Huston Clark paced the Red Wolves with 13 points and four rebounds.

The Bruins will return to the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center on Friday, Jan. 11 when they play host to Central Baptist College in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
