Parrott leads Bruins over Dakota State, 85-65

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior James Parrott led four Bruins in double figures with 24 points as the fourth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team closed out the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic with an 85-65 victory over Dakota State University Saturday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Bellevue improved to 6-3 on the season with the win. Dakota State fell to 5-4 overall. 

Jeremy Arrington was 7-of-10 from the field, finishing with 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Richard Shepherd  recorded 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Blake Zamudio was the fourth Bruin in double figures, scoring 13 points, including a 3-of-4 performance from 3-point range. 

The Bruins hit a sizzling 62.5 percent from behind the arc, going 15-of-24 from 3-point land.

Cameron Krump and Jesse Bean scored 13 points apiece to pace the Trojan offense. 

Trailing 15-10 in the first period, the Bruins scored 13-straight points fueled by a pair of 3-pointers from Zamudio and five points from Parrott to take a 23-15 lead with 11 minutes remaining. 

Bellevue extended the lead to 16 points at halftime (47-31) paced by 18 points from Parrott, 11 from Zamudio, and 10 by Arrington. Parrott scored the final 10 points of the half for the Bruins. 

The Bruins hit 10-of-13 3-pointers in the opening period.

A seven-point Trojan run pulled DSU to within 11 points at 60-49 with 9:20 remaining in the contest. 

DSU closed to within single digits at 65-56 with a pair of free throws by Krump at the six-minute mark. 

Bellevue answered with 11-consecutive points over the next two minutes, closing the game on a 20-9 run to claim the 85-65 victory. 

 The Bruins return to action on Monday, Dec. 5, when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa for a 7 p.m. game at William Penn University.
