LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Thierno Agne's three-pointer as time expired capped off a 22-point comeback as the fourth ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team fell 75-72 to No. 1 Northwood (Fla.) University Saturday night at the Turner Athletic Center.
Northwood, who advanced to the Fab Four in 2011, improved to 3-1 while Bellevue dropped to 4-2 this season.
Richard Shepherd led the Bruins with a career-high 22 points, on 8-for-12 shooting, to go along with three rebounds and three assists. James Parrott went 9-for-11 from the field and scored 21 points with nine rebounds and three assists. Jeremy Arrington chipped in 11 points while Austin Bowen registered 10 points and four assists.
BU built a 42-24 halftime lead on 70.8 percent shooting (17-for-24) including a 7-for-10 (70 percent) clip from three-point range. Parrott and Shepherd combined for 26 points on 10-for-12 shooting in the opening stanza to lead the offensive barrage.
The Seahawks opened the second half on a 36-13 run to take their first lead, 60-55, since scoring the first two points of the game. The Bruins responded with a 13-4 spurt to take a four-point lead, 68-64, but NU would score eight of the next 10 points to take a 72-70 advantage with under one minute left in the contest. Parrott tied the game at 72-all on a lay-up with 7.2 seconds remaining before Agne's three-pointer won the game for the Seahawks.
The Bruins shot a season-best 64.3 percent (27-for-42) from the field and went 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from behind the arc. The Seahawks connected on 47.5 percent (29-for-61) of their field goal attempts and went 20-for-28 (71.4 percent) in the second half. BU also committed 24 turnovers which led to 29 points for the Seahawks. NU turned the ball over just 10 times.
Patrick Horstmann led the Seahawks with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bruins will play at Warner University tomorrow (Nov. 20) at 6:00 p.m. CST.
