Bruins cruise to 86-62 win against Park

FREMONT, Neb. -- Five different Bruins scored in double-figures as the Bellevue University men's basketball team posted an 86-62 nonconference win against NAIA Division I Park University Saturday afternoon in the Bruins' final game of the Draemel Classic at the Midland University Event Center.

Bellevue has won its last three games and improved to 4-1 while Park dropped to 3-3 this season.

Ousseynou Diop notched his second double-double of the season, recording 18 points, 17 rebounds, four blocked shots, two steals and two assists. Richard Shepherd went 7-for-8 from the field and also scored 18 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists.

James Parrott scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, five blocks and five assists while Austin Bowen recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Blake Zamudio chipped in 11 points off the bench.

The Bruins used a 14-4 run midway through the first half to take a nine-point lead, 28-19, capped off by a Shepherd 3-pointer with just over five minutes left in the opening stanza.

The Pirates cut their deficit down to six on a three-point basket by Reco Anderson with just under one minute left before Parrott took over the final minute. BU's leading scorer recorded two blocks that led to a fast-break dunk before ending the half with a lay-up in the final seconds to help the Bruins take a 36-26 halftime lead. Parrott led all scorers in the first half with 11 points and five blocks.

BU carried the montemum into the second half, scoring the first five points before cruising to the 24-point win as the Bruins led by double-figures the entire second half. Diop paced the Bruins in the second half registering 12 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.


The Bruins shot 50.0 percent from the field, including a 6-for-13 (46.2 percent) clip from three-point range in the second half. Bellevue held the Pirates to just 38.1 pecent shooting.

BU finished with a season-best 22 assists, along with 11 blocks, eight steals and outrebounded PU by 13, 47-34.


Park was led by Anderson who recorded 15 points.

The Bruins will
travel to Florida next weekend for the Warner University Classic, Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 19-20.

Notes:
- Bellevue is 15-4 all-time against Park.
- Shepherd (18) and Bowen (14) each scored career-highs in points.

- Diop has recorded at least one block in 38 straight games.
- Bellevue led by as many as 26 points.
- The 24-point win is BU's largest margin of victory this season.
