Bruins top Hastings, 69-61

HASTINGS, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team defeated Hastings College 69-61 in nonconference action at Lynn Farrell Arena. BU improved to 2-1 while HC fell to 2-2 this season.

James Parrott led the Bruins with 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Jelani Johnson added 16 points, five assists and five steals while Richard Shepherd chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. Jeremy Arrington was the fourth Bruin scoring in double-figures, recording 11 points. Austin Bowen led BU on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Broncos shot 45.7 percent from the field while limiting the Bruins to just 39.4 shooting. BU registered 15 offensive rebounds and forced 22 turnovers. The Bruins also held a 24-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Hasting was led by Brett Wells who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bruins will return to action on Friday, Nov. 11 with a 4:00 p.m. game scheduled against Benedictine College as part of the Midland Draemel Classic.
