Bruins win 8th-straight with 109-57 win over CBC

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Seven Bruins scored in double figures as the seventh-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team posted it eighth-straight win with a 109-57 victory over Central Baptist College in MCAC action Saturday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

The Bruins improved to 15-5 on the season and 3-0 in the MCAC. Central Baptist fell to 4-15 overall and 0-3 in league play. 

BU reached the century mark for the third time in the last four games in posting a season-high 109 points.

James Parrott led the Bruins with 22 points and nine rebounds. Ousseynou Diop added 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Other Bruins in double figures included Jelani Johnson (13), Jeremy Arrington (11), Derrick Davis (11), Olushola Olutola (11), and Richard Shepherd (10). 

Spencer Caraway led the Mustangs with 20 points, 15 coming in the second half. 

Two-straight dynamic dunks from Parrott fueled a 16-3 Bruin run that gave BU a 35-19 advantage with six minutes remaining in the opening half. 

Bellevue shot a sizzling 64.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 53.8 percent from 3-point range, while opening up a 58-27 halftime advantage. Parrott led BU in the opening period with 13 points and six rebounds. Johnson collected nine points and four assists as six Bruins registered at least one 3-pointer before halftime. 

A pair of 3-pointers from Parrott sandwiched in between a layup by Shepherd gave BU a 77-39 advantage with 13 minutes remaining in the contest. 

Despite cooling off in the second half with 50 percent shooting, the Bruins pulled away for the 52-point victory, the second largest margin of the season. 

Bellevue will travel to Bethany, Okla. next Friday, Jan. 20 for a 7:30 p.m. MCAC contest at Southwestern Christian University.
