BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Seniors Eugene Bain and Avery Tyler and junior Jelani Johnson combined for 54 points to lead the eighth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team to a convincing 91-59 victory over Central Christian College Saturday afternoon in MCAC action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The win, which avenged a 92-88 loss to the Tigers on Jan. 22, improved the Bruins to 23-5 overall and 10-2 in the MCAC. Bellevue maintained their half game lead over No. 4-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan in the league standings. Central Christian fell to 20-6 on the season and 7-4 in conference play. 

Bain recorded 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the win. Tyler poured in 18 points while adding three rebounds and three assists. Johnson collected 17 points and five assists. Donald Jones and Jeremy Arrington chipped in 10 points apiece as five Bruins were in double figures.

Don Gavin led the Tigers with 20 points, three rebounds, and four assists.

The Bruins held Central Christian scoreless for the four minutes of the game, racing out to a 10-0 lead, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Tyler. Five-straight points from Johnson gave BU a 21-8 advantage at the 13:17 mark.

Four different Bruins scored in a 7-0 run that gave BU a 16-point (28-12) lead at the nine-minute mark.

Four-straight free throws from Johnson and a dunk by James Parrott sparked a 6-0 BU spurt to extend the lead to 38-16 with 3:45 remaining in the half.

The two teams traded baskets the rest of the period as the Bruins took a 47-24 lead at the intermission.

Bain led the Bruins in the opening half with 14 points and five rebounds. Johnson added 13 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Christopher Jones paced the Tigers with eight points and seven boards.

CCC never got closer than 21 points in the second half. A 3-pointer by Arrington gave Bellevue its largest lead of the game at 34 points (71-37) at the halfway mark of the period.

The Bruins will travel to Lawrence, Kan. next Friday, Feb. 18, for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Haskell Indian Nations University.
