BETHANY, Okla. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team outscored Southwestern Christian University 54-24 in the second half to cruise to an 89-50 MCAC win Saturday night at the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.

With the win, the Bruins have now won four of their last fives games to improve to 20-5 overall and 7-2 in the MCAC. The loss dropped the Eagles to 6-17 and 2-7 in league play.

James Parrott and Donald Jones led four Bruins in double figures, with 14 points apiece. Ben Imig scored 13 points and made all three of his three-point attempts while Jelani Johnson added 10 points. Ousseynou Diop recorded seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Riemond Prince led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds to pace SCU.

The opening half featured four ties and three lead changes before the Bruins closed the half on a 19-10 run in the final 7:22 to take a 35-26 lead at the break. Imig led BU with eight points off the bench while Johnson added six points. Diop paced the Bruins on the glass with five rebounds. BU shot 44.4 percent and was 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from behind the arc while allowing the Eagles to shoot just 33.3 percent in the opening stanza. Prince led SCU with nine first half points.

The Bruins scored 25 of the first 28 points in the second half to take control of the game and take a 31-point lead, 60-29, and cruise to the 89-50 conference win. Parrott, this week's MCAC Player of the Week, scored 11 points and was five-of-six from the field in the second half to lead the Bruins. Jones chipped in 10 points and four rebounds in the half.

BU shot 50.8 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range. This marked the 12th time this season the Bruins have shot 50 percent or better from the field.  BU held the Eagles to 25 percent shooting and limited SCU to just 18.5 percent (5-of-27) in the second half.   

The Bruins will return to action next week when they play at in-state conference foe Peru State College on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
