BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Sophomore James Parrott led four Bruins in double figures with a career-high 20 points and the Bruins used an 18-point second-half run to grab a 104-69 MCAC victory over Southwestern Christian University Saturday afternoon at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The win put the Bruins in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

The Bruins, who reached the century mark for the third time this season, improved to 19-4 on the year and 6-1 in the MCAC. The Eagles slipped to 5-16 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Parrott was 7-of-9 from the field, while nailing 3-of-4 3-pointers as the Bruins shot a season-high 66.7 percent from the field. Bellevue also hit a season-high 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from behind the arc. 

Avery Tyler finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Eugene Bain poured in 14 points and added six boards. Jelani Johnson was the fourth Bruin in double figures with 10 points, while adding a game-high seven assists.

SCU was led by Josh Gamblin's 18 points. Derek Colvin and Ray Hilliard both chipped in 10 points apiece for the Eagles.

The Eagles used an early 9-2 run to overcome a five-point deficit in taking a 14-12 lead at the 12:26 mark of the first period. Five different Bruins scored in a 9-0 spurt over the next three minutes as BU built a 21-14 advantage and never trailed the remainder of the contest.

A seven-point run gave BU an 11-point  (28-17) advantage with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. A 3-pointer by Jordy Harris capped a five point SCU run that drew the Eagles to within six (37-31) at the 2:42 mark. After five straight-points from the Bruins, SCU closed out the half on a 6-2 run, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Hilliard at the buzzer as Bellevue took a 44-37 lead at the break.

Tyler led BU in the opening stanza with 11 points and four rebounds. Bain, Parrott, and Johnson all registered six points apiece as the Bruins shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field. SCU, which shot 46.4 percent, was led by Hillard's eight points.

Hilliard's short jumper capped a seven-point Eagle run which brought SCU to within two points (48-46) with 17 minutes remaining in the game. That was as close as the Eagles would get as five-straight points from Tyler, four from Johnson and a 3-pointer by Cruise highlighted an 18-point BU run that gave the Bruins a 66-46 advantage at the 11:14 mark.

Parrott hit three 3-pointers in a two-minute stretch as the Bruins pushed ahead by 25 points (79-54) with just under nine minutes left in the game. Bellevue closed the game on a 25-15 run to cruise to the 104-69 victory.

The Bruins will head to Peru State on Tuesday, Feb. 1 for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Bobcats at the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
