BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University eSports team picked up its first-ever win on Saturday afternoon before going on to win twice more to finish the weekend with three AVGL (American Video Game League) wins.

Bellevue defeated the University Wisconsin via forfeit before going on to claim competitive victories over both the University of Waterloo (Ont.) and Missouri Baptist University.

With their win streak at three, BU improves their overall record to 3-1 on the season. They'll return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against Miami University (Ohio).

Saturday: BU 2, Wisconsin 0 (forfeit)

Wisconsin did not have a fifth competitor arrive for the contest and, due to AVGL rules, Bellevue was awarded a forfeit victory.

Saturday: BU 2, Waterloo 0

Game One:

Bellevue drew first blood (first kill of the game) in the first game against Waterloo and played strong in the early portion of the contest. The Bruins were able to secure the first turret for an early lead. By the midway point, Waterloo began to turn the tide as a result of some ill-timed miscommunication by the BU team.

The Bruins, ultimately, came out victorious in game one and were able to out-scale Waterloo as the result of some very nice plays by Chengyun Xue "Ray" (Raay).

  • Note: Out-scaling is when a team's late game damage and team composition is superior to that of the other team's.

Game Two:

Waterloo seized and early lead as the result of a BU misplay as both teams opened the game passively. Waterloo made a bottom lane play that continued their lead into the end of the early phase. This was the result of some nice calls to achieve some early objectives, including, the first tower of the bottom lane, first tower of the top lane, and the Rift Herald.

  • Note: Rift Herald is a strong early game objective giving the team who defeats it an advantage.

As the game progressed Bellevue grabbed control of the map, vaulted into the lead, and secured the victory in the game and the match.

Sunday: BU 2, Missouri Baptist 0

Game One:

Bellevue took the first lead on Sunday as mid-laner Dylan Guidichessi (Asuh My Dudes) obtained first blood. BU continued that lead by allocating resources to the bottom lane and taking the first turret for an early team advantage. From there Bellevue's bottom lane players switched with the top lane to secure the first turret and the Rift Herald. Using Rift Herald the Bruins pushed down the middle lane securing objectives after objective until destroying the Nexus and obtaining victory.

Game Two:

Chengyun Xue "Ray" (Raay) made several good plays at the onset of game two to help Bellevue secure objectives early on and taking an early advantage that snowballed into the mid- to late-game. With a substantial lead BU was able to secure the victory in under 20 minutes.

  • Note: The earliest a team can concede a game is 20 minutes.

Weekend Review:

Bellevue head coach Alex Rogers cited Chengyun Xue "Ray" (Raay) as the weekend MVP for game-changing plays he made throughout both the Waterloo and Missouri Baptist matches. Rogers said, "He stayed patient and calm while waiting for the perfect moment to strike, giving our team the ability to take the lead in decisive situations."
