Luther, Schorie pick up NSAA Player of the Week honors

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Bellevue University sophomore Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) and senior Dustin Schorie (Chandler, Ariz.) have been named the North Star Athletic Association's Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as announced by the NSAA office on Monday.

Last week, Luther batted .750 with four extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs, while producing a 2.300 OPS. He reached base safely at least twice in all four games, recording an extra-base hit in three of four, drove in nine runs, and scored seven as BU won three of four in an NSAA series at Waldorf.

Luther extended his hitting streak to 14 games over the weekend. During that span he is hitting .553 with a 1.675 OPS, six home runs, 21 RBI, and 18 runs scored.

Schorie got the start in the series finale against Waldorf, pitching five innings of four-hit ball. He struck out a season-high tying eight against a pair of walks and allowed just a pair of unearned runs.

In conference play, Schorie has totaled 21 strikeouts in 14.2 innings of work, good for 12.89 K/9 and a 2.63 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Luther's award marks the second straight week in which a Bruin has been honored and the third time this season. Schorie is the first pitcher to collect the NSAA Pitcher of the Week honor.

For the season, Luther is now batting .411 (2nd on the team) with a .480 OBP (2nd), .701 SLG (3rd), eight home runs (2nd), 31 RBI (4th), 37 runs scored (1st), and 14 extra-base hits (4th) while producing a slick .969 fielding percentage at short, helping to turn 18 double plays.

Schorie, this season, has pitched to a 4-1 record and 4.17 ERA, racking up a team-high 38 strikeouts. His 1.23 WHIP is second among starters, and his 49.2 innings are the most of any Bruin to date.

The 13th-ranked Bruins play a three-game series with Peru State College this weekend. Bellevue welcomes the Bobcats to John Stella Field at Brown Park on Friday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (noon) while traveling to Peru on Saturday (2 p.m.).
