Elsner signs LOI with BU Baseball

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Steven Elsner (San Francisco, Calif./College of Marin) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Elsner, a 6-3, 220-pound first baseman and outfielder, comes to Bellevue from College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif. where he was a two-time second team all-Bay Valley Conference pick. Over the past two seasons, Marin posted a 50-36 record going 32-10 in league play while reaching the NorCal Regional in both years.

In his three seasons with the Mariners, Elsner hit .311 with a .956 OPS. He totaled 45 extra-base hits including 16 home runs, 83 RBI, 78 runs scored, and stole 15 of 16 bases successfully. After limited action during the 2021 season, Elsner turned in strong production in the middle of the Marin order, hitting over .300 with 20+ extra-base hits in each of the next two seasons .

Coach Monlux on Elsner:

"Steven is a big, strong kid that we are really pumped about coming to Bellevue. He is a two-time all-conference selection for College of Marin in California. He has the ability to play a corner outfield spot as well as first base. He hit for both average and power during his JuCo days. We expect big things at the plate from Steven in his time at BU."

Elsner joins the previously announced Brady Toth (RHP, Boise, Idaho/Columbia Basin College), Jace Wessels (RHP, Clarkston, Wash./Columbia Basin College), and Danny Spongberg (OF, Omaha, Neb./Southeast CC) in the Bruins' 2023 recruiting class.

Bellevue is coming off a 2023 season in which the program reached the Avista NAIA World Series for the 16th time in program history. During the campaign, the Bruins posted a 48-10 overall mark, going 25-3 in conference play while sweeping both the NSAA Regular-Season and Tournament titles. BU parlayed the league's lone automatic bid into the program's 25th NAIA National Tournament Appearance, hosting their fifth Opening Round at Don Roddy Field and defeating Oklahoma City in the Championship Game to reach the Avista NAIA World Series for the third time in four seasons.
