Bellevue lands signature of outfielder Lacey

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Jake Lacey (Gillette, Wyo./Miles CC) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Lacey, a 6-1, 175-pound outfielder, comes to Bellevue from Miles Community College in Miles City, Mont. The Wyoming-native has enjoyed considerable success at the Junior College level, hitting just shy of .400 for his career with a 1.214 OPS that includes 48 extra-base hits, 95 RBI, and is 61-71 in stolen base attempts.

This season for the Pioneers, Lacey is hitting .419 with a 1.334 OPS. He leads his team in runs (62), doubles (13), and stolen bases (39) while ranking second in hits (52), extra-base hits (25), RBI (47), batting average, and slugging percentage (.790).

Coach Monlux on Lacey:

"Jake is a kid that we are very excited to have joining the Bellevue University baseball family. He is a tremendous young man that is a great student and a very good baseball player. He has been a mainstay in the Miles CC lineup the past two seasons. He possesses the ability to hit for average, power, and can steal bases as well. We feel he has the ability to step in and be a major contributor right away to our program."

Lacey joins earlier signees Hunter Herpel (OF, Mayville, Wis./Hibbing CC), Ayden Adams (RHP, Federal Way, Wash./Everett CC), Austin Herold (LHP, Shenandoah, Iowa/SW Tennessee CC), Titus Oien (LHP, Vancouver, Wash./Clark College), Nick Grade (3B, Kennewick, Wash./Columbia Basin College), and Logan Grant (Calgary, Alta./Bismarck State) in the Bruins' 2022 recruiting class.

The Bruins, ranked seventh nationally, are 41-10 overall and wrapped up the conference play with a 25-2 record, winning the regular-season title, and the No. 1 seed in this weekend's NSAA Tournament. Since 1995, the storied BU baseball program has totaled 34 conference championships, 23 NAIA National Tournament Appearances, and 14 trips to the Avista-NAIA World Series.
