Alvarado, Longaker honored as NSAA POTW

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- For the second-straight week and third time this season the Bellevue University baseball team swept the North Star Athletic Association weekly awards program as announced by the league office on Monday.

Anthony Alvarado (Wapato, Wash.) and Kory Longaker (Edmonds, Wash.) were named the NSAA's Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

The Bruins won all five games they played last week, including a four-game North Star sweep of Viterbo over the Weekend. BU has won 11-straight games to improve to 18-13 overall and boast a perfect 8-0 mark in league play.

Alvarado was terrific in both of his appearances last week – a relief appearance against Peru State and a start against Viterbo. He fired 10 scoreless innings and struck out seven batters in posting a 1-0 record. After two scoreless innings of relief against Peru State, he logged eight shutout innings against Viterbo on the weekend, striking out a season-high seven batters in a 4-0 BU win.

This season, Alvarado is 2-1 on the hill with a 3.43 ERA. He's struck out 14 in 21.0 innings of work.

Longaker slashed a hot .706/.762/1.353 on the week as he tallied eight doubles, a home run, six RBI, and scored 10 runs. He reached base multiple times in all five games and stretched his hitting streak to a team-best 12 games. He registered two doubles in three separate games and picked up a season-high four hits, coming a triple shy of the cycle, in BU's 28-3 series-opening win over Viterbo on Saturday.

For the year, Longaker is hitting .355/.450/.536 with 15 extra-base hits, 18 RBI, 34 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

Longaker was also honored as the NSAA Player of the Week last Apr. 28 while Alvarado is receiving the honor for the first time as a Bruin.

Bellevue hosts Morningside College on Tuesday, Apr. 2 at Bellevue East High School's Don Roddy Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
