Former BU standout Torres-Perez receives Minor League honor

DURHAM, N.C. -- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Gary SouthShore RailCats LHP Braulio Torres-Perez (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 25.

Torres-Perez picked up a pair of wins on the mound this week, allowing just a single unearned run over his 13 innings of work. His first start of the week came on Tuesday at home against the Sioux City Explorers, a game in which he worked six innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks. He struck out four in the game, won by the RailCats 4-1. He returned to the hill on Sunday to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on the road, and turned in another strong start. Over seven shutout innings, he scattered three hits and three walks, and struck out six RedHawks. Gary SouthShore went on to win 5-1.

Torres-Perez, who resides in Federal Way, Wash., is now 4-0 on the season with a 3.55 ERA in 11 appearances (six starts). He has struck out 33 in 43 innings. The southpaw is in his second season of professional baseball after a collegiate career at Bellevue (Neb.) University. He split 2016 between Gary SouthShore, where he made two appearances, and the Florence (Ky.) Freedom of the Frontier League.
