KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In an announcement made today by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Bellevue University baseball seniors Robbie Ayres and John King were both named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The duo joins a list of 383 student-athletes from across the nation who earned the prestigious honor.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
Ayres is a native of Fort Mohave, Ariz. and is majoring in Business Administration.
King, a native of Melbourne, Australia, is pursuing his bachelor's degree in Health and Human Performance.

Bellevue wrapped up the 2017 campaign with a 51-11 overall record. The Bruins went 23-1 in NSAA play, taking home the conference regular season crown and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 19th time in school history. BU was ranked No. 2 in the final NAIA regular-season top 25 poll.
