Fisher, Nicks named BU Athletes of the Year

Three-time all-conference pitcher Kelli Fisher (Yutan, Neb.) and baseball standout Todd Nicks (Bakersfield, Calif.) were named the Bellevue University Athletes of the Year in an announcement made today in conjunction with the 44th Annual Bellevue University Athletic Banquet.

Fisher became the school's all-time wins leader earlier this year and continues to add to her total which now stands at 86. Entering this week's conference tournament, Fisher owns the school single-season record with 27 wins in 2017. She currently leads the Bruins with a 27-4 record, four saves, 153 strikeouts and a 0.91 ERA. Fisher has allowed just 14 walks this season in 200 innings pitched and over 750 batters faced. 

A three-time all-conference selection, Fisher has earned NSAA Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season and six times throughout her career. In the latest NAIA national statistics, Fisher ranks first in walks allowed per game (0.46), third in wins (27), fifth in saves (5), and seventh in ERA (0.91). 

An excellent student, Fisher is a three-time conference Scholar-Athlete honoree. The accounting/business major is on track to graduate in

Nicks has been a dynamic two-way player for the Bruins over the past two seasons and has impressive career numbers to show for his work. Over 156 career games Nicks owns a .325/.404/.535 slash line to go along with 19 home runs and 95 RBI. In his two seasons as a pitcher he has posted a 20-4 record to go along with 179 strikeouts and 2.60 ERA in 152.1 innings. He's averaged 10.58 strikeouts per nine innings while putting up a WHIP of 1.083 and a strikeout to walk ratio of 3.58.

Nicks was named an all-conference selection last season while also capturing a Gold Glove. Three times in his career, he has been named NSAA Pitcher of the Week and he also has an NSAA Player of the Week award to his credit. Nicks ranks among the top three on the BU team in several categories both offensively – batting average (.378), home runs (12), runs batted in (55), on-base percentage (.460), slugging average (.719), and extra-base hits (21) – and on the pitching rubber – wins (9), strikeouts (81), innings (65.1), strikeouts per game (11.16), and earned run average (2.62).
