Gonzalez highlights OWH NAIA all-Nebraska team

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior catcher Osvaldo Gonzalez shared captain honors on the Omaha World-Herald's NAIA all-Nebraska team with Peru State shortstop Randy Santiesteban. In addition, fellow seniors Tyler Blood, Steve Sarone and Stephan Meyer also earned first team honors. 

Gonzalez, the 2014-15 Bellevue University Male Athlete of the Year and first team NAIA All-American, led the Bruins with a .418 batting average, 29 doubles, 16 home runs, 65 RBIs and a .779 slugging percentage. He was named the MCAC Player of the Year and his 29 doubles led the entire nation in 2015. Gonzalez was named the NAIA National Player of the Week on April 7 and he was also selected the the MCAC Gold Glove Team. 

Sarcone and Meyer shared MCAC Pitcher of the Year honors this season. 

Sarcone was a second team NAIA All-American and also a first team all-MCAC honoree in 2015 after earning second team honors a year ago. He led the Bruins with 118 strikeouts while recording a 10-1 record and a 1.51 ERA in 14 appearances.  Sarcone recorded a career-high 17 strikeouts in a complete-game 7-0 shutout victory at Waldorf on April 24. He had four double-figure strikeout games this season. 

Meyer earned first team all-conference accolades and honorable mention NAIA All-American honors while leading the Bruins with 11 wins and a 1.47 ERA. He recorded a team second-best 101 strikeouts in 13 appearances on the mound. Meyer had three games with double-figure strikeout totals including a career-high 13 K's in BU's 7-0 win at Waldorf on April 25.  

Blood started 58 games at third base this season, earning first team all-MCAC honors while batting .324 with six doubles, two home runs and 30 RBIs. He also was named to the MCAC Gold Glove team. 

Aaron Brasher, Gabriel De La Rosa, Sean McManus and Colton Nash all earned honorable mention recognition on the all-Nebraska squad.

Bellevue finished the 2015 season with a 46-15 overall record, winning the MCAC Tournament title while advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 18th time in school history.
