Baseball inks first signee of 2015 recruiting season

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team, under the direction of head coach Duane Monlux, has today announced their first signing of the 2015 recruiting season. Andrew Churchill (Colorado Springs, Col./Rampart HS) has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2015.

The son of Norm and Diane, Churchill was coached by Daniel Jackson at Rampart High School and by Mark Swope and his father with the Colorado Springs Select club team.

Churchill, an outfielder, has been a three-year starter in his high school career and has been named a team captain this season. He was named a Colorado Springs All Area Honorable Mention pick in 2014 while earning 5A Colorado Springs Metro League All-Conference Honorable Mention and All-Conference Second Team in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

A two-sport athlete, Churchill also earned numerous honors in basketball as a three-year letterman and two year starter. He is also a Second Degree Black Belt (Nidan) in Shaolin Kempo Karate and is a certified junior lifeguard in Colorado Springs. His father, Norm, is a 1990 Bellevue graduate and played five years of professional baseball in the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs organizations.

Churchill has been an Honor Roll student throughout much of his high school career and is an Academic Letterman. At Bellevue he aims to major in Sports Management/Business Administration.

Bellevue is currently ranked 17th nationally and sports a 33-11 mark on the season with an 11-5 record in league play.
