KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Senior catcher Osvaldo Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) has been named the NAIA National Player of the Week in an announcement made by the NAIA National Office. Gonzalez helped lead the Bruins to a perfect 5-0 record last week, including a dominating four-game MCAC sweep at Central Christian over the weekend. 

Gonzalez continued his hot hitting, finishing the week with a .619 batting average, a .680 on-base percentage and a 1.524 slugging percentage. He pounded out four doubles, five home runs, and drove in 20 runs on the week.

Gonzalez, who has garned MCAC Player of the Week honors the last two weeks, currently leads the nation in doubles (25), total bases (119), and slugging percentage (.910) and ranks highly in batting average (2nd, .485), hits (4th, 64), home runs (11th, 10), and RBI (11th, 46).

The 14th-ranked Bruins (32-7, 10-2 MCAC) host a critical four-game set with No. 10 Oklahoma Wesleyan this weekend at Roddy Field on the campus of Bellevue East High School. The Bruins and Eagles square off in a pair of doubleheaders, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
