Bruins complete series sweep over Waldorf, 12-0, 13-6

OMAHA, Neb. --  The 14th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team completed the four-game series sweep over Waldorf College, defeating the Warriors 12-0 and 13-6 Friday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Westgate Field.

With the two wins, Bellevue improved to 18-6-2 on the season and 7-1 in the MCAC. Waldorf, which has now lost 15-straight games, fell to 1-16 overall and 0-8 in league play 

The Bruins will host Morningside College in a 4 p.m. single 9-inning non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 25. 

Bellevue 12, Waldorf 0 (7 innings)

Kyle Kinman excelled on the mound and at the plate and Charlie Krueger drove in five runs as the Bruins breezed to the 12-0 shutout victory in the opener. 

Kinman (4-1) tossed a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts to earn his team-leading fourth victory of the year. He also went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. 

Krueger finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs and a home run to pace the BU offense. 

Five Bruins registered multiple hits in the victory as BU outhit the Warriors 14-1. 

A three-run homer to right field by Krueger highlighted a four-run first inning as the Bruins batted through the order. 

A two-run single by Krueger and an RBI double by Levi Cartas pushed the BU lead to 7-0 in the second inning which also saw Kinman blast his second-consecutive double of the contest. 

A pair of RBI singles by Zack Clark and Kinman and a Warrior fielding error expanded the margin to 10-0 in the third frame. 

Clark scored on a balk by Waldorf's Gomerez after leading off the fifth with a single and advancing to third, thanks to a single by Kinman and a ground out by Cribbs, giving the Bruins an 11-0 advantage.

A sacrifice fly to center field by Mark Medalia scored Cartas from third to make it 12-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Casey Schuermann (0-4) suffered the loss after giving up 10 runs on 10 hits, with two walks and three strikeouts in three innings of work. 

Bellevue 13, Waldorf 6

Devin Ferguson went 2-for-2 with five RBIs and a home run to lead the BU offense to the 13-6 win in the series finale. Nate Mullins finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Krueger was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. 

Schuermann drove in the Warriors' first run of the afternoon with an RBI double to left center field to give WC an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. 

Two home runs in the second inning, including a three-run shot by Ferguson and a solo blast by Mullins gave BU the lead at 4-1.

Waldorf cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third, highlighted by an RBI single through the left side by Vince Perricelli. 

The Bruins expanded the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the third, sparked by an RBI double by Mullins and a one-run single by Ferguson. 

The Warriors got a run back in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to right field by Schuermann, cutting the BU edge to 8-4. 

Mullins' RBI infield single and Krueger's two-run triple made it 11-4 in favor of BU in the bottom half of the fourth. Krueger also scored on a wild pitch, giving BU a 12-4 cushion. 

An RBI fielder's choice by Kellan Mick sliced the Bruin lead to 12-5 in the top of the fifth. 

Kendrick White's RBI single in the sixth pulled the Warriors to within six runs at 12-6. 

A sacrifice fly to center field by Ferguson allowed BU extend the lead to 13-6 in the bottom of the sixth. 

Sean Felt remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0 after allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work.  Rory Young was credited with the save after giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings on the mound.
