OMAHA, Neb. -- Despite outhitting Central Baptist College, 12-7, the Bruins stranded 10 baserunners as the Mustangs pulled off a 2-1 upset over top-seeded Bellevue University in the semifinals of the 2013 MCAC Baseball Tournament at Westgate Field Friday afternoon.
The ninth-ranked Bruins (44-8-1) will await word of their post-season fate when the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round pairings are announced on Sunday, May 5.
Central Baptist (25-24) advanced to the championship game and will face 11th-ranked York College at 4 p.m. at Westgate Field. York defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan, 7-2, in the other semifinal at the Creighton Sports Complex.
The game was scoreless until a solo home run to left field by Nate Mullins gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The Mustangs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles by Blake Dixon and Chad Curry, giving CBC a 2-1 advantage.
The Bruins had baserunners in the eighth and ninth innings but could not convert as Michael Newby (4-6) earned the win, despite giving up 12 hits with no strikeouts and one walk in nine innings.
Robert Greco (8-3) suffered the loss, scattering seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in 7 1/3 innings.
